feat(eduide): app catalog of official images, enabled list, plain app names (2.7.0) - #60
Restructures how the eduide chart defines IDE apps, and bumps both charts to 2.7.0.
appDefinitions.catalog: the IDE images EduIDE officially releases, owned by the chart: java-17, java-17-templates, java-25, java-25-templates, c, c-templates, javascript, python. A custom build for one installation (TH Mannheim's thm-java-25) is not in it; that installation defines it under its own apps. AGENTS.md records the rule, and scripts/test-app-consistency.sh writes the set out.
appDefinitions.apps: the installation's own apps and overrides, merged field by field over the catalog entry of the same name. apps.<name>: null removes one.
appDefinitions.enabled: the names an installation offers, from the catalog or from apps. Empty (the default) offers every definition. A non-empty list renders only what it names, apps entries included.
A name in enabled with no definition is skipped, and helm install/helm upgrade print a warning naming it (new templates/NOTES.txt; the deploy job log shows it).
Apps drop the -latest suffix: java-17-latest becomes java-17, and so on. landingPage.appDefinition defaults to java-17-templates.
Rust and OCaml are gone. EduIDE no longer builds them.
One helper, eduide.apps, feeds the AppDefinitions, the landing page config (app list and privacy limits), image preloading and the NetworkPolicy port checks. The merge is a small recursive helper instead of sprig's mergeOverwrite, which skips false and 0.
Only what eduide.apps returns is rendered, preloaded and kept warm: enabled: [java-25] renders one IDE AppDefinition and preloads one IDE image.
Example for another university:
appDefinitions:
enabled: [java-25-templates, python, haskell]apps:
python:
limitsMemory: 4000M# one field changed, rest from the cataloghaskell: # own image from its own registryimage: registry.example.edu/ide/haskell:2.1.0landingPage:
label: Haskellimage: theia-logo.png # a logo the landing page ships, or a path starting with /
Breaking: the rename replaces every AppDefinition
Helm deletes the -latest AppDefinitions on upgrade. The session ingresses, prewarmed pods and sidecars they own go with them, so running sessions end. Everything that names an app has to move to the new names in the same window:
Release this chart (2.7.0) before any environment moves to the next EduIDE IDE release: EduIDE#210 removed rust and ocaml, and chart 2.6.2 still renders them by default.
scripts/test-app-consistency.sh ALL PASS, covering: the catalog is exactly the official set; enabled is empty by default; empty enabled renders catalog plus apps; enabled restricts AppDefinitions and landing page; an apps entry enabled does not name stays out; a custom app with a foreign registry image reaches all three consumers; overrides merge and can set false; null removes an app; an unknown name is skipped and named in the NOTES warning; the defaults print no warning; every catalog entry renders alone. Also test-maintenance-page.sh, check-agents-md.sh, helm lint, helm-docs regenerated.
….7.0)
Split appDefinitions.apps into a chart-owned catalog of every IDE image
EduIDE builds, an enabled list per installation, and apps for an
installation's own definitions and overrides. One helper, eduide.apps,
merges them and every consumer reads it, so the AppDefinitions, the
landing page and preloading still cannot disagree.
A new catalog entry no longer appears in every installation by itself.
Java 25, Java 25 templates and TH Mannheim's Java 25 join the catalog,
not enabled by default. Rust and OCaml are gone: EduIDE no longer builds
them. apps.<name>: null still removes an app, so existing values files
render as before.

Walkthrough
The chart now builds a resolved app map from catalog entries, enabled names, and installation overrides. AppDefinitions, landing-page configuration, image preloading, and NetworkPolicy checks use that map. The release updates the chart versions and documents the new configuration.
The chart defines catalog entries, enabled names, and installation overrides. eduide.apps resolves them, with recursive merging and null removal. Defaults and Java 25 catalog entries are updated, and the documentation and release metadata describe the configuration.

Preserve workspace access when removing the default apps.
For an upgrade with existing Rust or OCaml workspaces, Helm deletes their AppDefinitions. Starting those workspaces without an override then fails because the operator cannot find the definition. Provide a migration that preserves or remaps these workspaces before removal.

The catalog now holds only the images EduIDE officially releases: Java 17,
Java 25, C, JavaScript, Python and their template variants. TH Mannheim's
thm-java-25 is a custom build and moves to Mannheim's own apps.
An empty appDefinitions.enabled (the default) offers every definition,
catalog and apps alike. A non-empty list renders only the names it lists,
apps entries included. A name with no definition is skipped, and
helm install/upgrade print a warning naming it through NOTES.txt instead of
failing the render.
Apps drop the -latest suffix: java-17-latest becomes java-17 and so on.
Helm replaces every AppDefinition on upgrade, so running sessions end and
Artemis exercises and saved workspaces have to move to the new names.
