🧱 New component testing model

Component testing moves to a stories and galleries model. A story wraps your component in one specific scenario — hard-coded props, mock data, providers — and a gallery page that you serve renders stories on demand. The new fixtures.mount() fixture navigates to the gallery, mounts a story by id, and returns a Locator scoped to the story's root element:

Pass a story type as a template argument to type-check its props, and use update(props) / unmount() on the returned locator to re-render or tear down within a test.

🛑 Cancel operations with AbortSignal

Most operations and web-first assertions now accept a signal option that takes an AbortSignal, letting you cancel long-running actions, navigations, waits, and assertions:

🖼️ WebP screenshots

expect(page).toHaveScreenshot() and expect(locator).toHaveScreenshot() can now store snapshots in the WebP format — just give the snapshot a .webp name:

Looks like @playwright/test is up-to-date now, so this is no longer needed.

Landed on main in 0ff37f5, not by merging this branch.

All five of this lab's Dependabot PRs were open at once and none of them had a CI signal: the only workflow triggers on push to main, so merging a PR verifies it after it can already have broken the live demo. The batch was applied to main and gated before pushing.

Gate run locally, in the order deploy.yml runs it: npm run typecheck, npm test (132 vitest tests), npm run build, npm run test:a11y — the 11 Playwright specs that exercise this bump directly, including the axe WCAG A/AA scans. All green, and the resulting main run was green end-to-end with Pages redeployed.

@playwright/test ^1.61.1 -> ^1.62.1 is in that commit. Closing as superseded.
