Summary

  • Dedicated pytest workflow: Adds .github/workflows/pytest.yml to run all unit and skill regression tests (tests/test_*.py) directly in ~1 minute on CPU, making pytest visible as a distinct, fast check in PR check lists.
  • Streamlined PR matrix: Splits uv-envs.yml into:
    • core-envs: Tests the shared runtime environments (cpu, mlip, fairchem on ubuntu-24.04) for every PR, finishing in ~2-3 minutes.
    • extended-envs: The heavy 18-target matrix (cross-architecture ARM runners, alternative CUDA 12.6 toolchain, and pinned research stacks) runs automatically on push to main, version tags v*, manual workflow_dispatch, or PRs explicitly labeled with full-ci.

This reduces typical PR CI wait times from 11+ minutes across 23 matrix legs down to ~2-3 minutes across 5 focused jobs while ensuring all skill and framework tests are actively verified on every PR.

- Add dedicated .github/workflows/pytest.yml running all unit and skill
regression tests (tests/test_*.py) in ~1 minute on CPU
- Split uv-envs.yml into core-envs (cpu, mlip, fairchem on ubuntu-24.04)
for fast PR checks and extended-envs (ARM runners, alternate CUDA 12.6,
and research stacks) for main, release tags, and full-ci PR runs
