While working on this for my package LinguisTiX, a blind linguist reported that it becomes tedious to listen to the text of labels constantly. Ulrike has provided a solution that works, but I was wondering if it would be sufficient for me to switch it off in my package. Unless it has an actual reason to stay as it is, probably it should change and the reading of labels/destinations should be suppressed. Temporarily, will it be safe to assign the socket globally or should it be assigned locally only for my links?
