Summary

• Replace the homepage hero's four existing panoramic WebP assets with Mari's actual historical photograph and source-derived room continuations, retaining the original asset filenames and responsive dimensions.
• Restore the original full-bleed image layout, object-fit: cover, the 960/1440/1920/2880px srcset, and the green gradient overlay in .ud-hero::after. Remove the portrait-only positioning/masking rules.
• Delete the redundant mari-hero.webp; do not introduce a replacement person or a generated portrait.
• Tune the subject's focal position independently for phone and tablet sizes while keeping the original responsive architecture.

Image provenance and exact-pixel preservation

• Source: the actual Mari photograph from commit 448af78 (mari-original.webp), recovered from Git, including the approved lip coloring.
• Main output: source/assets/images/hero/hero-image.webp at 2880 × 1200; derivatives: hero-image-1920.webp (1920 × 800), hero-image-1440.webp (1440 × 600), and hero-image-960.webp (960 × 400).
• The original 1269 × 1200 photographic rectangle is embedded at x=1240–2508 of the final lossless WebP, with 0 changed RGB pixels out of 1,522,800, maximum RGB channel difference 0. The remaining 39 bottom rows of the original source (table only) are cropped to match the 1200px panoramic height. The same zero-difference check covers hair (595,000 pixels), face/lips (191,100 pixels), and hands/tablet (442,800 pixels).
• Only the side room surroundings have been extrapolated from the source image's photographic edge colors and textures. No synthesized person's appearance has been used. The green contrast gradient remains in CSS rather than baked into WebP.

Implementation

• source/index.blade.php: restores definitive filenames, the image srcset and sizes, and separate mobile/tablet focal points.
• source/_assets/scss/_hero.scss: removes ud-hero--portrait; retains the original full-width and green overlay behavior; supports a tablet focal-point CSS variable.
• source/_partials/home/hero-section.blade.php: removes an unused responsive <picture> wrapper and supports the optional tablet focal-point variable.
• source/assets/images/hero/hero-image*.webp: replaces the old person's images in place; removes mari-hero.webp.
• No preview workflow changes are introduced by the final two commits.

Validation

• All four WebP assets decoded and validated with Pillow.
• npm run test:js: 10/10 passing.
• npm run prod: Vite production asset compilation succeeded; full Jigsaw site generation was not available locally because Composer dependencies are absent.
• git diff --check: passed.
• Actual headless Chrome/Playwright rendered the currently deployed PR page with local final CSS/assets temporarily injected (not artificial screenshots), at 360, 390, 768, 820, 1024, 1440, 1920, and 2560px. All images loaded, object-fit: cover worked, the green CSS gradient remained active and no horizontal document overflow was found.
• Two incremental commits, e9e77002061f3632754233817db35458d5d2f4be and d0abc6e66fb97356a94f99638408d6586c638504, have cryptographically verified GPG signatures and matching DCO sign-offs.

Review

Review the live PR preview after its workflow deploys the new commit. Please inspect the room extension's naturalness as well as the original subject, tablet, typography, overlays and ultrawide edges. This PR remains open for code review; no merge or production deployment has been requested.
