Scriba Optimization Test Results

Date: 2026-05-21 Repository: /tmp/opencode/scriba

Summary

All optimization tests have been created and documented. Tests cover:

  • Memory management
  • Buffer allocation
  • File comparison optimization
  • ECC check refactoring
  • Progress display
  • Error handling
  • Large file handling
  • Backward compatibility

Test Files Created

  1. test_suite.sh - Basic test suite (10 tests)
  2. test_advanced.sh - Advanced tests (10+ additional tests)
  3. OPTIMIZATION_PLAN.md - Optimization roadmap and checklist
  4. TESTING.md - Comprehensive testing documentation

Test Results Template

Phase 1: Buffer Allocation Error Handling

  • Test 1: Buffer allocation checks
  • Test 2: Null pointer validation
  • Test 3: Error path cleanup
  • Test 4: File size validation

Phase 2: Code Quality

  • Test 5: File comparison optimization
  • Test 6: Reusable verification function
  • Test 7: const correctness
  • Test 8: Static analysis warnings

Phase 3: Refactoring

  • Test 9: ECC check table refactoring
  • Test 10: Progress printing consolidation
  • Test 11: Verify logic deduplication
  • Test 12: Common patterns extraction

Phase 4: Performance

  • Test 13: Buffer reuse optimization
  • Test 14: USB transfer optimization
  • Test 15: qsort() for chip detection
  • Test 16: Reduced redundant operations

Phase 5: Validation

  • Test 17: Valgrind memory leak check
  • Test 18: Flash chip compatibility
  • Test 19: Backward compatibility
  • Test 20: Documentation update

Success Criteria

  • All tests pass with valgrind (no leaks)
  • Code compiles with -Wall -Wextra without warnings
  • Performance improvement: 20%+ faster file verification
  • Memory usage reduced by 10%+
  • Code size reduced by 15%+
  • All existing functionality preserved

Next Steps

  1. Review OPTIMIZATION_PLAN.md for detailed checklist
  2. Run ./test_suite.sh to verify baseline
  3. Start Phase 1 optimizations (safety)
  4. Run tests after each phase
  5. Document all changes

Commands

# Run basic tests
./test_suite.sh

# Run advanced tests
./test_advanced.sh

# Memory leak detection
valgrind --leak-check=full ./scriba -i

# Build with debug symbols
make CFLAGS="-DDEBUG -g"

# Static analysis
gcc -Wall -Wextra -c src/*.c

Test Execution

# Test 1: Basic flash detection
./test_suite.sh | grep "Test 1"

# Test 2: Memory leak detection
valgrind --leak-check=full ./scriba -i | grep "definitely"

# Test 3: Code size optimization
wc -l src/*.c | grep -v "total" | awk '{sum += $1} END {print "Total lines:", sum}'
