The "Columns" dialog shown here:
…feels way too complicated and clunky when it comes to managing columns. I could provide a broader suggestion to vastly simplify it (in a separate ticket), but I don't know if you'd be interested, so for now I'm making at least one suggestion independently from that dialog: it should be possible to reorder columns without using that dialog.

In the main window, click and drag a column to the left or right to change the horizontal order of columns (I think the columns view widgets have a property for this?), and auto-save the new order. Then you wouldn't strictly need to use the Columns dialog to do this.
