Description / Context
When using Chatmap, many contributors upload data collected via WhatsApp groups. However, images shared through WhatsApp are often not fully downloaded to the device (e.g., still in preview or cloud state).
This creates a situation where:
- Images appear to exist on the device
- But are not actually accessible during upload
- Resulting in missing or empty data in Chatmap
Problem
Currently, there is no validation or warning to ensure that all images are fully downloaded before uploading.
As a result:
- Uploads may silently fail to include images
- Data quality is reduced
- Users may not realize the issue until later
Proposed Solution
Introduce a popup reminder before the upload starts.
Trigger:
- When user selects images for upload (especially from WhatsApp folders)
Popup Message (example):
“Some images from WhatsApp may not be fully downloaded. Please ensure all images are downloaded to your device, otherwise they may not be included in the upload.
Click ‘Yes’ if you understand.”
Actions:
- Yes → Proceed with upload
- (Optional) Cancel → Return to image selection
Expected Impact
- Prevent missing image uploads
- Improve data completeness and reliability
- Reduce confusion for new users
