I would love to see scorpions and other hostile bugs added to this mod, as Bane of Arthropods doesn't have that many foes to deal with; 2 are spiders, with silverfish and endermite appearing rarely with very low health. I think adding more hostile arthropods and giving weaker arthropods built-in armor points (bugs have strong exoskeletons) would greatly improve Bane of Arthropods.
Here are some concepts:
- Scorpion: replaces spiders in Arid-land biomes (deserts, badlands, and savannas), and can also appear in caves. Attack by pinching or grabbing the player in place, and inflicting poison (and/or apply weakness) with their stinger. Additionally, scorpions have a chance to be ridden by husks and skeletons (or Parched when Vanilla Backport implements them) just like spider jockeys. Scorpions have a chance to drop their stinger, which can be brewed into a Potion of Poison Resistance (compatability if Alex's Mobs is installed).
- Arthropods have armor points (configurable) + Bane of Arthropods buff: spiders and silverfish are easy to kill compared to other mobs, by having less health. But giving arthropods built-in armor points would make the challenge on par with the likes of zombies and skeletons. Bane of Arthropods gets a buff where it ignores armor points on arthropod mobs, increasing armor point reduction per level. This is highly configurable by blacklisting and whitelisting specific mobs (lists add modded mobs like the Cave Centipede from Alex's Mobs, Spider Crab from Spawn mod, anything from Arthropod Phobia Expansions, etc.).
- Swarms: similar to Zombie Sieges and Skeleton Traps, Swarms are an in-game event that spawns many spiders. Swarms have a chance to have cave spiders (configurable), and a rare chance to spawn skeleton jockeys (also configurable). In Arid-land biomes, Spider swarms are replaced by Locust.
- Locust: found exclusively in Arid-land biomes and appear in Swarm events. Locust work similar to rabbits where they can eat your crops, except they can fly (ideal to put your crops in a base or greenhouse). Locust will also attack the player when they're near crops. Locust have a chance to drop their wing, which can be brewed into a Potion of Saturation to combat Husks from inflicting the Hunger status. Adding a fermented spider eye to a Potion of Saturation turns it into a Potion of Hunger, which can be turned into a splash or lingering potion to mess with your friends.
- Fire Ants: A hostile ant mob found in the Nether Wastelands in a small structure called the Magma Mound (a fire themed anthill). Fire ants will attack the player by setting them on fire for a few seconds. They are also fire resistant, meaning they can also swim in lava (like how real life fire ants can float on water).
- Antlions: found in deserts in a structure called the Treasure Pit, which generates suspicious sand with loot. However, the sand within the pit sinks the player and slows them down (functions like soul sand). If the player dares to reach the center of the Treasure Pit, an Antlion will emerge like Evoker Fangs and crawl out to attack. If the player successfully kills the Antlion, they have the chance to find a treasure chest with loot under the pit. Antlions also have a chance to drop their head, which can be used like a bear trap on mobs and other players.
- Hornets: A hostile variant of the Bee which can be found in Hives underground, hanging off of cliffs, and in Hornet Nests on trees. Hives are a new structure found underground and surrounded by Pulped Paper, a new block which can be crafted back into 4 pieces of paper (a perfect resource for crafting bookshelves, fireworks, and empty maps). Hornet Nest is a new block that houses Hornets (functions like a Bee Nest), which can be found in trees or in Hives structures. Inside of Hives, you can find Hornet Larvae which are tameable like wolves. Once they mature, they can fight by your side without dying like bees after stinging foes.
- Frostbider (ice spider variant): replaces spiders in cold and snowy biomes in place of spiders. They inflict frostbite to the player for several seconds (like Cave Spiders).
